After a couple days in Moscow, it was then time to travel with our
coordinator Svetlana, to Yaroslavl, where our little girl lived in
orphanage #1. On the four hour drive, we visited shrines and wondered
at the architecture with it's beautiful domes and colorful, muraled
walls. Surrounded with high snow, the scenery was surreal. As we approached
the City of Yaroslavl, we crossed the great wide span of the Volga River.
It was awesome in it's scope and interesting with it's spots of fishermen dotting the
ice, and working to bring home a catch of fish through the rapidly closing ice holes
they had wrought. Inside, the City our coordinator brought us to a hotel to stay
for the night. This hotel makes us laugh to this day (although, not at the
time). It was the coldest room we had ever stayed in and only had one twin
bed in the room. Now, Rich is 6'4" and I'm 5'8". You
can imagine the hillarious scene; Rich and I hadn't slept so close since our wedding
night! All night long, we heard our driver start the engine of the van we
were riding in
so that it would not freeze and side walk shovelers working through the
long hours of the night. By morning, we were exhausted! Rise and
shine, we were off to the orphanage to meet our "little bundle".
