Special Needs Child
"A Baby Boy!"
HIS STORY:
Description: #102619GDN (M) 4/11/02
5/03 UPDATE:
On a recent trip this little guys foster mother was happy to brag about her
little guy. She reports that she feels he is intellectually normal, that she see no
obvious impairment to his sight caused by his smaller eyes and that he is now beginning
to communicate. He says 'mommy', and has one specific word he uses when pointing to
things he wants her to look at to give him. She also feels he is understanding what
she said to him. (There is another issue that needs to be taken into consideration.)
**A significant subsidy for the adoption of this special child is available to
qualifying families.
This sweet and affectionate baby boy is thriving in his foster home.
His development both physically and cognitively is right on track and he
is reaching all of his milestones age appropriately. When you first meet
this little guy you are struck by the smallness of his eyes. While this
diverts your attention at first, it only takes a short period of time before
you noticing only an adorable little one who enjoys playing with toys and
interacting with adults. While he is obviously more comfortable with those
he knows he doesn't shy away from interacting with a friendly stranger.
This baby, who just turned one year old, has been diagnosed with
Ptosis-Blepharophimosis Syndrome (or Ptosis Associated with Blepharophimosis)
more information on this condition can be found on the internet, one place to
begin is:
http://plasticsurgery4u.com/proceedure_folder/eyelid_recon_folder/blepharophimosis.html.
The specialists that I have consulted with tell me that surgery will be needed to
widen his eyes and enable him to see clearly without his view being obstructed.
(There is another issue that needs to be taken into consideration.)

Please let AIAA know that you found this dear child here, at The Welcome Garden!
